To my Facebook fans, friends and family,
I am deleting my account on Sunday, May 16th. I am very concerned about Facebook identity policies. It is important that I have control over my identity. Upon investigating my online identity data, I have found several misrepresentations based on Facebook profiles and aggregates that do not accurately reflect my real identity. Given the long-term outlook of the value of identity data, I will no longer use Facebook so that I can preserve how my identity is reflected in the world.
I hope that is food for thought for you. And I encourage you to continue following me on Twitter and my website. For further discussion of Facebook identities please see Leo LaPorte, our Petaluma resident and world-wide tech guru in the YouTube video: Leo Laporte Deletes His Facebook Account .
All the best, Tiff
Community Update: April 2010
Dear Friends,
It continues to be a privilege to serve you as Petaluma City Councilmember. I believe that my actions and leadership on the Council over recent months have proven my commitment to being your voice for Smart, responsible development; a thriving local economy; a healthy environment; a vibrant community; and innovative solutions for the future.
Some highlights of things I've been working on for you include:
Working with the Regional Climate Protection Authority (RCPA) to create countywide policies for meeting greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals. Sonoma County continues to be a leader in climate recovery. We have several challenging paths ahead of us to reach our goals, but my work with the RCPA has been some of the most rewarding.
Serving with a board of county elected officials on the Sonoma County Waste Advisory Group who are working toward long term zero waste solution.
Continuing to demonstrate economic leadership, including responsible oversight of our budget, exploring partnerships with Sonoma County GoLocal cooperative, and participating in City's economic development strategy efforts.
Ensuring compatible and responsible Smart in-fill development that creates economic stimulus and jobs creation in Petaluma - including North River Landing, the Silk Mill hotel project, infill development near the future Corona Smart Rail station, and continuing to work with the Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) on local freeway interchange improvements.
Working with the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) on regional efforts to remove chemical and plastic pollution from the waste stream and waterways.
Supporting our youth as liaison to the city Youth Commission. The Commission is currently collaborating on creating literature for area youth about free, confidential health services and work permit info - which the Youth Commission will launch at Teen Garden at the Butter & Egg Parade.
Serving as liaison to the city's Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee (PBAC) - where we continue to seek and receive grant opportunities to implement our city-wide bike plan, expand projects to improve pedestrian safety, and explore future projects like the Petaluma Blvd. South road diet—which will ensure a safe and pleasurable experience for all when shopping downtown.
The stakes have never been higher when it comes to our long term economic, environmental, and community vitality—which is why I'm writing to you today to ask you for your support. The campaign has a small amount of debt to retire in order to move forward toward future efforts that will keep me attending critical events and networking with those committed to making a difference.
Your contribution today, large or small, is appreciated. Or I have set up a simple plan for you to make a monthly contribution of $12.50. You can click here or the button to the left to make a contribution.
Thank you! Your confidence and support continue to give me the perseverance to forge new and lasting pathways and leverage opportunities for our community. Please stay connected with me on Facebook or Twitter, send me your emails with concens or ideas and know I am grateful for all the work we are doing together to help Petaluma through these challenging times.
